Myeloid Dysplastic Syndrome with Deletion of 5q31

  • Commonly occurs in old female
  • Peripheral blood: Macrocytic anemia, normal or increased platelet count
  • Bone marrow: Dysplastic megakaryocytes with small and mono-lobated nuclei
  • Genetics: Isolated 5q- deletion; may have one additional genetic alteration, except 7q deletion
  • Good prognosis with low risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia
