Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Lymphadenopathy

  • 60% cases of SLE show lymphadenopathy, mostly cervical and mesenteric lymph nodes

  • Histology:

    • Follicular hyperplasia with or without an interfollicular expansion

    • Numerous plasma cells in germinal centers and the medullary cords

    • Large areas of coagulative necrosis with ghost lymphocytes, abundant karyorrhectic debris, and histiocytes. Neutrophils are scant or present

    • Hemotoxin bodies
