Plasma Cell Myeloma

  • In the bone marrow smear, the atypical plasma cells mimic erythroid precursors with round and dense nuclei. However, the chromatin of the neoplastic plasma cells is slightly less dense and more homogeneous. Moreover, the cytoplasm is more abundant and pale-blue staining, with perinuclear halo and  vacuoles.

  • In the clot section, the plasma cells closely resemble lymphocytes.
