Surgical Pathology Case

 

Verruca Vulgaris

  • Common wart, mostly single or in groups on the dorsal surface of the fingers and hands

  • Circumscribed, firm, elevated papules with papillomatous/verrusous surfaces

  • HPV-1, 2, 4, 7, and 49

  • Histopathology:

    • Hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, papillomatosis

    • Elongated rete ridges, bent inward at both margins, radically point to the center

    • Vacuolated cells/koilocytotic cells, vertical tiers of parakeratotic cells, and foci of clumped keratohyaline granules
