Nodular lymphoid hyperplasia (NLH) of the GI Tract

  • Clinical Futures:

    • Most frequent symptoms: diarrhea, involuntary weight loss and abdominal pain

    • Associated with immunodeficiency: common variable immunodeficiency (CVI), AIDS

    • Increased risk of gastrointestinal tumors, mainly gastrointestinal lymphoma

    • Hermanís syndrome: NLH, hypogammaglobulinemia and Giardia lamblia infection
  • Gross Findings
    • May resemble small adenomatous polys
  • Microscopic Findings:
    • Hyperplasic lymphoid follicles with mitotically active germinal centers at mucosa and/or submucosa

    • The number of follicles is not a diagnostic criterion
