Surgical Pathology Case

Invasive lobular carcinoma with focal signet ring features

  • Lobular carcinoma of breast may or may not form mass lesion, and occasionally may initially have extramammary presentations, including metastasis into lymph node or other organs first;

  • The tumor  cells typically show diffuse infiltrative pattern without ductal or nested formation. They are medium in size, and the nuclei are round or slightly irregular. Cytoplasm is moderate in amount with occasional but characteristic intracytoplasmic lumen;

  • Tumor cells are positive for ER, PR and negative for Her2/Neu and E-Cad.
