-
Often multicentric and bilateral; not candidate
for FNA; increased risk of invasive ductal carcinoma;
-
Histologically, LCIS consists of solid
nests that are completely filled and distended by small uniform
cells with highg N/C ratio; adjacent ducts may be colonized by
similar cells;
-
FNA usually shows low cellularity with small,
poorly cohesive small groups and a few single cells;
-
Presence of cell balls corresponding to the
distended acini;
-
Round to angular nuclei with mild pleomorphism
and slightly irregular nuclear membrane;
-
Slight hyperchromasia with fine chromatin and
prominent nucleoli.
