Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma, MALT type of Salivary Gland

  • This case shows nodular proliferative pattern with residual follicles in the center of the nodules. This may resemble follicular lymphoma due to colonization of lymphoma cells in the follicles. BCL2 immunostain shows weaker staining in the center of the nodule and stronger staining in the periphery, which correspond to the residual germinal centers and surrounding tumor cells respectively. In follicular lymphoma, BCL2 would show stronger staining in the center.

  • Extranodal marginal zone may have reactive follicles in the tumor

  • CD43 positivity of the tumor cells favors extranodal MZL and against follicular lymphoma
