| GROSS DESCRIPTION | ||
| The specimen from the left breast consists of a modified radical mastectomy specimen measuring 25.0 x 22.0 x 7.5 cm. The axillary tail measures 11.0 x 10.0 x 3.0 cm. The skin ellipse bearing the nipple measures 23.0 x 13.0 cm and the nipple measures 1.0 cm in diameter. A large mass is palpable in lower outer quadrant. Upon sectioning after fixation, a large tumor with central necrosis is noted ( 7.0 x 5.0 x 4.0 cm). The tumor abuts the overlying skin and is at least 2 cm from the deep margin (nearest margin). The remaining breast is unremarkable. Upon dissecting the axillary tail several lymph nodes ( 0.4 to 1.2 cm in maximum dimension) are noted. | ||
