Surgical Pathology Case
 

CLINICAL INFORMATION

  51 year-old male. History of synovial cell sarcoma of right femur. Left upper lobe mass.

GROSS DESCRIPTION

 

The specimen consists of a wedge resection of lung measuring 4.4 × 3.5 × 1.7 cm. A large bulging mass is present on the pleural surface which measures 2.5 × 2.3 × 0.7 cm. Sectioning through this mass reveals a pink-tan, fleshy appearance to the lesion.

CLINICAL INFORMATION

  Three years later, the patient had left lower pleural mass implant.

GROSS DESCRIPTION

 

The specimen consists of a single irregular tan-pink and brown fragment of soft tissue measuring 3.7 × 3.0 × 1.2 cm. There is a round, gelatinous, firm tumor implant in the center of the specimen measuring approximately 2.0 × 1.9 × 1.0 cm. Sectioning through the tumor reveals a soft tan homogenous tumor with a small area of peripheral hemorrhage.
