CLINICAL INFORMATION

  44-year-old female, left thyroid mass.

GROSS DESCRIPTION

 

The specimen consists of one thyroid lobe with a stitch indicating left upper pole. The specimen measures 5.5 5.0 3.0 cm and weighs 25 grams totally. The external surface of the entire specimen is inked blue. Serially sectioning through the specimen reveals a 2.5 2.0 cm, well encapsulated tumor mass in the lower pole. The cut surface of the tumor is dark brown, tan and soft. Touch imprint are prepared for H.E, Quick-diff and Wright-Giemsa stains. Gross photos are taken. Serially sectioning through the left upper pole reveals an unremarkable cut surface.
