CLINICAL INFORMATION

  A 72-year-old female with a prominent asymmetric goiter had recent onset of hoarseness and neck pain. A midline neck mass (possible thyroid gland) was noted and resected.

GROSS DESCRIPTION

 

The surgical specimen measures 6.0  5.0  4.0 cm with attached skeletal muscle. The cut surface of the specimen shows a fleshy tan mass with indistinct borders and necrosis. The tumor mass firmly attaches to muscle.
