Surgical Pathology Case

  71-year-old male. Left breast mass.

The specimen consists of a 918 gram left mastectomy specimen with attached axillary tail. The mastectomy specimen measures 30.0 x 19.6 x 3.8 cm. There is a 19.0 x 7.0 cm ellipse of tan-brown unremarkable skin with a 2.0 x 1.5 cm friable, exophytic, crusted nipple. The axillary tail measures 15.0 x 12.0 x 5.0 cm. Sectioning through the specimen reveals a 3.2 x 3.0 x 2.6 cm firm tan stellate mass that is within 0.4 cm from the closest deep resection margin. The tumor mass is directly posterior to and slightly lateral to the nipple.
