LEFT KIDNEY, INFERIOR POLE POSTERIOR, NEEDLE CORE BIOPSY:

          - ONOCYTOMA

 COMMENT:

The specimen consists of a few needle core biopsies of focal, unremarkable renal parenchyma and a focus of neoplasm.  The tumor cells are arranged in tubular, glandular, and cord patterns in a mucoid background.  These tumor cells are uniform with abundant bright eosinophilic, granular cytoplasm and round nuclei.  Occasional small nucleoli are noted. No atypia is present. The tumor cells are strongly positive for CD117, but are negative for CD10, CK7, RCC and Vimentin.  Although the biopsy material is limited, these morphologic and immunophenotype features support a diagnosis of oncocytoma.
