Surgical Pathology Case

 

CLINICAL INFORMATION

  50 years old female, 6 to 12 month history of intermittent fever and occasional flank pain. Lab studies were non-contributory except for a positive urine culture for E. Coli. CT showed a left renal mass.

GROSS DESCRIPTION

 

An 8.0 cm unencapsulated mass was noted in the superior pole of the kidney. The cut surface was tan-yellow and necrotic. A staghorn calculus was present in the renal pelvis. The mass involved the adjacent adipose tissue.
